Brian Tracy: “Mr. No Good At Pumping Gas”
“All people who are successful are excellent at what they do.”
Find out how this broke investor went from job hopping to business thriving.
Mr. Brian Tracy grew up in a household with a role model that went from job to job, a bit lazy, and never had enough money. For birthdays and Christmas, he would get used clothes and was even made fun of by his other classmates once they found out that their parents were the ones who donated those clothes to Goodwill.
Like any broke investor, this did not deter Brian Tracy from reaching towards success. Albeit, he did not get there without a struggle. Brian Tracy has admitted that growing up, he was not good at ANYTHING. “I was never picked for any team and if I was picked I was the first person cut.”
Brian Tracy received lousy grades while in school, stating, “I finished in the half of the class that makes the top half possible.” On top of that, Brian Tracy struggled with finding that “perfect job”.
After dropping out of high school, Brian Tracy went from job to job in several industries including construction, farms, ranches, and factories. One of the most memorable jobs he was let go from was for pumping gas. “They came out and said you’re NO GOOD!” How can you be no good at pumping gas???
Enough is enough
After finally being fed up with his broke motions, Brian Tracy wondered, “Why are some people more successful than others?” Brian Tracy then discovered that ALL PEOPLE who are successful are EXCELLENT at what they do.
The key here is to become excellent at what you do and get into the top 10% in your field. If you don’t want to be in the top 10%, it means you’re in the WRONG field. With this priceless gem in hand, Brian Tracy started to ask successful sales people in his industry what they were doing differently. After finding out, he implemented their strategies and started getting similar results.
