We all have had this thought. “What if I can?” If you haven’t, make sure to give it a try. Sometimes though, what goes on in your mind, what comes out, and what actually occurs, may not always match up. Here’s how to alleviate this Broke Motion. Get S.M.A.R.T!
Let’s begin. We’ve heard it countless times:
Specific Measurable Achievable Results-focused Time-bound
The first time hearing this was when I first joined NSLS. The next time reading this S.M.A.R.T. process was @smartpassiveincome.com. The third and final time was looking back at my notes and realizing, I’ve been actively avoiding getting S.M.A.R.T.
I understand goals take time to build. I also understand they take time to do. Believe it or not, I really understand that it takes time to cross goals out. No matter the case, goals are goals and without them, we can’t get S.M.A.R.T.
Start Your Engines
As with any system, you have to start it. Now, it’s not going to take 60 days to write out goals that are:
Clearly defined (Specific) to measure a project (Measurable) in order to achieve (Achievable) outcomes that are driven by statements (Results-focused) in a timely fashion (Time-bound).
Here is an example:
Specific: Provide HTML5 templates.
Measurable: The 1st set of HTML5 templates will be a set of 5.
Achievable: The Broke Investor sharpened his skill-set by joining the web industry.
Results-focused: To build The Broke Investor’s skill-set in web design.
Time-bound: By Jan. 26, 2018, The Broke Investor will create an HTML5 website.
Time to get S.M.A.R.T:
By Jan. 26, 2018, The Broke Investor will create an HTML5 website, in order to, provide HTML5 templates. The 1st set of HTML5 templates will be a set of 5 to build The Broke Investor’s skill-set in web design. Don’t worry, The Broke Investor sharpened his skill-set by joining the web industry.
Now that’s a S.M.A.R.T goal statement, if I may say so myself.
Why the 60 Days, then?
Well, in 60 days, The Broke Investor will have spent 1 year at one of the top web hosting companies in the U.S.. On top of that, The Broke Investor would have devoted 1/8 of his time specifically for driving to and from there, while covering 100 miles each day. Now that’s measurable.
With the New Year kicking into high gear, make sure we are not stuck in neutral. With that said, my time is starting to become more and more valuable everyday. Not that it wasn’t already. I am simply recognizing that every second really does count.
Broke Tip: Start grinding out your S.M.A.R.T. goal statements
Take hold of the day because yesterday or tomorrow won’t do you any good if we can’t get S.M.A.R.T. Don’t just obtain 1 or 2 S.M.A.R.T.(s), get as many S.M.A.R.T.(s) as you can get done. Sooner or later, you will go from getting S.M.A.R.T to being S.MA.R.T. and that’s were the goldmine is.
You don’t have to move cities, states, countries, or planets in order to find the most precious commodity there is. No need to head towards the gold rush when you own your own goldmine, your mind.
Thoughts become words which turn into action which obtain results. Put your thoughts down on paper/e-form, rearrange them so they become S.M.A.R.T., then work towards them to get results.
Keep growing, keep investing. Even if you are, The Broke Investor.
